As I sat alone, trying to unravel the tangled web of emotions that swirled within me, I couldn't help but think of Theodore. Yesterday's lunch, which he had so thoughtfully planned, had been a sweet and tender moment.
As he shared with me the story of how he had cut ties with old friends and instead chose to cling tightly to the family staff he had grown up with, my heart ached in empathy. He had been so understanding and comforting when I had become emotional discussing my own experience of being discarded by old friends.
After lunch, we spent hours lounging on the couch, indulging in a marathon of our favorite TV shows. And as we devoured slices of pizza for dinner, our conversation flowed effortlessly. But now, as Theodore was away on a business trip, I found myself missing him terribly and struggling to make sense of these unfamiliar feelings.
I was feeling pretty weird about it, as if I were alone in this mansion when both Omar and Joanna were also here. I tried to get a read on what emotions I was feeling at the moment, and today was a day I had wished to be in the office working, but unfortunately
Today was my day off, and I was stuck at home. Jessi was pulling a 12-hour shift at her job today, and there was absolutely no way I was going to go visit Elizabeth, the Debbie Downer. As much as I wanted to see my niece and nephew, there was no way I was stepping anywhere near her.
I had already been wrangled into inviting her over on Friday when I had planned on just inviting Jessi.
Of course, Elizabeth overheard my conversation with Jessi while we were at my parentsâ home for dinner, and she had roped herself into being invited by using our mother to pressure me into extending the invitation. Then to top it all off, Elizabeth says sheâs going to bring some of her friends as well. I hated her friends because they were just like her to the point youâd think they were more her blood sisters than I was.
Thinking about my sister and her friends possibly coming over and ruining my enjoyment of Friday night was something that was quickly ruining my mood, so I switched gears to think about Theodore.
That seemed to do the trick because it was like at the thought of Theodore, my heart had been filled with some kind of emotion I couldnât place. I quickly wondered how his day was going and hoped the meeting turned out well for him. I wondered if he had skipped breakfast to focus on business or if he had already had a pretty good breakfast.
Or if he had skipped breakfast, would he have a hearty lunch to make up for eating a meal late into the day finally?
I had the urge to text him, but I was worried that I might disturb his business plans today since I didnât know if it was an all-day thing or if it was just something lasting for a couple of hours.
